Inclusive, sustainable, innovative local heritage projects implemented in Harghita County

Five municipalities from Harghita County (Ciucsângeorgiu, Sândominic, Remetea, Lunca de Jos and Frumoasa) have developed projects based on local heritage and values. They have all developed their concepts around sustainability, cross-cultural communication, inter-generational approach, gamification, co-creation and digital skills.
  1. Pilot project from Sândominic
Project title: Non Recuso Laborem – The Life of Bishop Márton Áron 

The aim is to present the life of Bishop Áron Márton in a playful way using traditional and innovative technological tools. The Márton Áron  museum’s offer is complemented by this tour.
Main stations of the tour:
Starting point: Áron Márton Museum
Station 1: the former family home: after scanning the QR code, a video will be shown with the first passage of the bishop’s favourite song, followed by photos of families living in the early 20th century.
Station 2: group of statues: after scanning the QR code, a digital crossword puzzle appears.
Station 3: school: after scanning the QR code, a digital puzzle appears.
Station 4: church: scan the QR code to watch a video about the treasures of the local church.
Final station: Márton Áron Pilgrimage Center, where the tour ends with an interesting quiz, rewards are offered to the winners.

2. Pilot project from Ciucsângeorgiu

Title: In the Footsteps of the Honvéd General Gál Sándor / The memorial house of Honvéd General Gál Sándor 

The objective of the project is to turn the Memorial House into a place for interactive history lessons using playful methods so that all ages can enjoy visiting it. The aim is to provide information about the Revolution of 1848 and the tipical folkwear of the region, using elements of gamification. 

Results: alternativ history lesson, with quiz, word search etc.

The quiz and word search will help students learn about General Gál Sándor and the Revolution of 1848.

3. Pilot project from Remetea
Title: Life in the Etnographic House of Remetea

The aim of the program is to bring the country house in Remetea with its original furnishings and ambience to life, and to bring visitors closer to the way of life of that period.

Life in the Ethnographic house: to redefine an existing cultural "product" and bring it to life, to make the place alive and to make it consumable for the target group.

Results: 
-        two photo walls in the courtyard, 
-        laminated quiz (with10 questions), 
-        3 puzzles: a 12 piece puzzle presenting objects  from the cottage, 
-        3 wooden models: yoke, spinning wheel, cart. (based on the model “Please do touch!”),
-        short films made by pupils of the György Fráter Middle School
-        5 QR codes showing the process of baking the traditional bread in 5 steps (5 videos).

4. Pilot project from Lunca de Jos
Title: “Csángórózsa” Card Game and Puzzle

The project was inspired by a program for children named “Csángórózsa”, which aim is to preserve the culture and tradition from Lunca de Jos. This project is based on a card game, where on cards different motifs, tools and instruments are presented, to illustrate the “Csángórózsa” card.

Results:
- a pack of cards with 56 sheets, each sheet with 8 symbols, 55 symbols in total 
- size of the cards: 8 x 10 cm,
- a dictionary with 55 words in the Ghimets dialect,
- two jigsaw puzzles.

Target group: primary school students (0–4th grades)

 5. Pilot project from Frumoasa

Title: The Route of Milk in Frumoasa village 

The aim of the project is to present, in a playful way, the knowledge related to cattle farming and how milk is transported from the farm to the processing plant and then to the consumer.  The dairy supply chain: from the farm to the refrigerator.

By following trails along the milk route, visitors will discover the natural and architectural heritage of Frumoasa. 

Results:

-        walking and cycling route,
-        guidebook (16 pg),
-        project description on www.visitszepviz.ro/a-tej-utja,
-        magnet,
-        in the near future they will include this project the annual cultural program of the village

Target group: secondary school students  (5th‒8th grades), but it is also an excellent family program.

Every project achived their project goals. Interesting and inspiring projects have been developed, based on local heritage values. Some of the local projects use elements of intercultural communication, gamification, and some of  them are still requires further developments. 

The GRACING project team had great time when piloting each project. The end users can explore the richness of the natural environment and cultural heritage of Harghita county in a playful and experiential way.
